Fun Things to Do Scalloping

Scalloping on Florida's Gulf Coast Big Bend!

Scalloping around Jena & Steinhatchee is one of the funnest  "fishing" methods for families and friends, and everyone participates. Finding them, then diving into the shallow water after them is a hoot for everyone!

Jena & Steinhatchee's inshore guides are experts at finding scallops; they can eliminate a lot of bad luck and wasted time. In fact, if they weren't taking you scalloping, they'd probably go themselves! It's that fun and they enjoy it that much. And with these guides you don’t need a license, you don’t need a boat, and you don’t need to know where to go! You may just have to bring a mask, fins, and a snorkel. Other than that, all you've got to do is get in the boat and go scalloping!

Scallop Season for 2012 opens July 1 and extends to September 25

And what's as fun as scalloping? It's eating scallops! If you're doing some Chinese cooking, you'll love scallops! if it's hometown cookin', you'll love scallops! Whether sauteed in butter or breaded and deep fried; scallops are one of the best seafoods around. One of the best places to go after them is around Jena & Steinhatchee, Florida.

Now there is a reason why the Steinhatchee river area is part of the pure water wilderness. We are a little bit far from most things, but there are very good places to stay. From cabin, condo & cottage rentals, to RV parks, campgrounds, great restaurants, and marinas, Steinhatchee & Jena have all you need to help you relax in your scalloping down time.

Harvest season for bay scallops along Florida’s Big Bend gulf coast begins July 1 and runs through September 10. If you don't have a guide, always check the rules and regs. If you do have a guide, he'll find the scallops and keep you safe and legal.
